Artists of Interest

Cornelia Parker

While I do the ironing I like to put something on the TV to watch to help with the boredom and I usually have a lot to do after a week of washing for a family of 5!! I was looking through BBC IPlayer to find something and I came across a series that was aired on BBC four call What do artists do all day? I watch one on Cornelia Parker. She is a sculptor/ installation Artist. She doesn't do textiles but I found her thought process interesting and how she found her inspiration. She find a lot of her images from just walking and driving around the streets. unusual objects like cracks in the pavement, marks on brick work. Some of her installation had a textiles feel when you look at them from a distance like (Colder Darker Matter) (1997) and (Thirty pieces of silver) (1988 - 9). I felt that they have a lace like quality.

Tutors Suggested Reading/viewing

After Assignment 1 Sandra suggested that I looked at the following artist:

Simon Periton

I looked at Simon Periton's work and I found that some of his work was really interesting and others like the photo below was beautiful. I could hang this on my wall.

Danica Maier

I love the work White Swallow (2005). It is so delicate. I love that its visibility is affected by light.

Catherine Bertola

I loved the work of Catherina Bertola. I found it really interesting how she makes her art out of dust and debris that we usually try and remove. The decorative feel of the work and the way it looks different in different light is beautiful. I will defiantly look at her some more, her work may give me some ideas for Assignment 3.
